Caelan Doris Included in Irish Selection But Joe McCarthy Left Out
Newly reappointed manager the Ireland coach has named skipper Doris in his Irish team for the autumn Tests, however lock McCarthy misses out.
Doris, who has not played since undergoing shoulder surgery in the start of May, has come back to provincial training, but it remains unclear if he will be fit to face the All Blacks in the US on 1 November.
Lock Joe McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after not recovering from the foot injury suffered during the first British and Irish Lions match against Australia in the summer.
Northern province player Izuchukwu and southern province wing Calvin Nash are not included because of fitness concerns, while number 15 Keenan had already been ruled out after undergoing a hip operation following the summer tour.
Leinster forward Paddy McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the only new member in the 34-player group, however the Irish Rugby Football Union says uncapped provincial duo Edwin Edogbo and Gleeson and previously capped western province wing Shayne Bolton will head to Chicago as "backup".
After facing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a repeat of their previous meeting, the team will play the Brave Blossoms, Australia and world champions South Africa in Dublin.
"There's an exciting look to the panel and it's a chance for the veteran players and for those who made their debuts on the recent tour to the Lelos and the Lobos," said the coach, back to Ireland duty after a break to coach the British and Irish Lions to the southern hemisphere.
In a largely experienced selection, Leinster's Prendergast and the southern club's Crowley will again vie for the first-choice fly-half position. The number 10 jersey is remains available, as Prendergast and Crowley set to face off for the first time in the upcoming URC match at Croke Park.
Frawley is the additional fly-half chosen with Farrell opting against selecting the province's Harry Byrne.
At number 9, the Ireland boss has selected Lions tourist Jamison Gibson-Park and Craig Casey, who captained the national side to the summer international victories over Georgia and the Lobos. Additionally, there is a recall for the western province's Caolin Blade, who is preferred to teammate Ben Murphy.
Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Ringrose and McCloskey form an veteran group of midfield options. Osborne is a further choice in the midfield, but the youngster is also a leading candidate to deputise for Keenan at full-back.
Wingers Lowe, Mack Hansen, O'Brien and Stockdale are named. O'Brien shone on his national team debut during the summer with a brace each in the wins over Georgia and the Lobos.
Paddy McCarthy is the only new addition in the Irish pack. The front rower has been in a couple of Leinster's URC league games so far and played in the second string's defeat by the English in the English city previously.
The 22-year-old was included in interim boss Paul O'Connell's summer squad, but did not receive a cap.
Southern province second row Ahern, who earned his first two caps in those matches, is kept in the squad, and veteran Northern province second row Henderson returns after missing the summer matches.
Conan, who started each of the Lions Tests over the summer, is set to cover for the captain should the captain fails to recover fitness in time to face the All Blacks.
The national team will assemble in Dublin on Monday before flying to Chicago on the following day.
