Approximately 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms passed over the area, producing wind gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Widespread Impact

Locals observed large ice chunks measuring up to 7cm in certain regions. Meteorological experts announced that multiple regions across Queensland had been impacted by significant hail.

Simultaneously, around 1,000 households in Victoria also faced power outages after the capital city experienced its most precipitation in a year and a half.

Emergency response teams received nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mainly for building damage but also for collapsed vegetation and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - various assistance requests
• Wyndham area - over 175 emergency requests

At the height on yesterday, more than 28k electricity consumers in Victoria were without power.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were predicted to continue along large portions of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential anticipated across multiple regions of both areas.

Safety Concern

Medical authorities alerted that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after previous incidents where comparable situations led to substantial respiratory problems in the area.
