Prince William Plans to Join COP30 Climate Summit in South America
Prince William will represent the United Nations climate conference in South America in the coming weeks, according to the royal household.
The father and son duo made a joint appearance on Thursday night at a event leading up to the climate summit, which is set to be held in the northern Brazilian city of Belem.
The King and Prince were in attendance at the scientific institution event, marking an rare public appearance together at a climate summit preparatory event organized in partnership with the UK government.
Climate Leadership Commitment
The King has been a consistent supporter of protecting nature - and Prince William has inherited the mission, with his own environmental prize initiative, which will be hosted in Rio before the COP summit.
Palace insiders have characterized William's involvement at the next COP as taking on an important role in "climate diplomacy".
Recent Engagements
The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the royal vehicle, were welcomed guests including conservation experts, scientists, climate change campaigners, diplomats and politicians.
This engagement featured addresses in concert with French leader Macron of France and other world leaders at the Ocean Finance Summit in the Principality of Monaco in recent months.
Environmental Prize Connection
The UN meeting will align with the the royal's climate innovation prizes, which will conclude in the Brazilian city the day before he joins the climate conference on 6 November.
Last week the prince described the Earthshot finalists as "modern-day pioneers".
Royal Climate Legacy
The King has been a key figure at previous climate summits, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for COP28, including the observation: "The Earth does not belong to us, we belong to the Earth".
"Throughout my life I've dedicated a large proportion of my life trying to alert people to the existential threats challenging our world over climate change, climate change and ecological decline," the sovereign addressed participants.
