The Princess of Wales's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with guests including members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.
The sizable congregation will enjoy a blend of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from actors such as award-winning actors.
Focusing on Kindness and Compassion
The central message of the event, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to aid parents with a child with a terminal illness.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a letter ahead of the concert.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Performance and Potential
Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians backed by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.
Carys Wood, aged 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "incredible" to be taking part in the concert.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now enrolled at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.
Among the guests will be people from various age groups.
That will encompass nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a young hero award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for community pantries.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.
The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."
The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be aired by television on December 24th.
